Peggy Kirk Bell - The Woman Behind the Open
Growing up a confirmed tomboy in Findlay, Ohio, Margaret Anne Kirk (who was called Peg from the start) loved sports. She wore blue jeans when that was unheard of for girls, and she was voted best athlete at her high school three years running. But after graduation, when Peggy wanted to go pitch for a women's baseball team in Cleveland, her father Bob put his foot down. Baseball was a boy's game.

If you would like to read more about how Peggy Kirk Bell got her start in golf and went on to be one of the founding members of the LPGA pick up the May/June 2001 issue of Pinehurst Magazine.
