Virginia Moss - "Reining" Monarch of the Sandhills Horse Country

As we gather this spring at Pine Needles to marvel at the reigning women of the LPGA, their dazzling skill and exquisite finesse, we thought it only fitting to introduce you to the grand dame of the Sandhills' other sport -- he sport of the horse. white it's taken for granted nowadays that this
temperate, sure-footed region is horse country, its evolution as such can be
traced directly back to the vision and generosity fo one outstanding horsewomen. Virginia Moss.

If not for Mrs. Moss, it is entirely possible that this particular horse country simply might not be. Sure the climate here is great for year-round riding, and yes the sandy ground is excellent footing for a horse's hoof, but what good is all of that, if there is nowehre to ride?

If you would like to read more about the 1800 acres Virginia Moss donated to ensure that Southern Pines would become horse country pick up the May/June 2001 issue of Pinehurst Magazine.
